The modern information society is governed by a central tension between drives to promote transparency and open access to information, and a concomitant need to safeguard privacy and personal dignity. This series explores different issues within that dynamic, featuring leading speakers from academia, civil society, and government, who have made unique contributions to how information is shared, protected, and regulated.<\/p>\n
The series, which is organized by the UCLA Institute for Technology Law & Policy and the Ziffren Institute for Media, Entertainment, Technology and Sports Law, will take place via zoom, and is free to all.<\/p>\n

\nMira El Sonbaty is Senior Vice President and Co-Chief Privacy Officer at Fox Corporation. Mira advises FOX media businesses on privacy and data security practices, including risk mitigation strategies. Her practice focuses on compliance, commercial agreements, policy and regulatory work. Mira was formerly with Arnold & Porter, where she handled consumer protection, intellectual property, and complex commercial litigation. Mira received her law degree from University of Southern California Gould School of Law, and her undergraduate degree from Pomona College in Claremont, California.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
\nDiana heads her own firm in El Segundo, Iketani Law, which focuses on privacy and outside general counsel services. \u00a0Her clients range from startups to multinational corporations in industries as varied as technology and entertainment, retail and consumer products, and real estate, healthcare, and education. \u00a0Her clients are worldwide, located in the US and abroad (including New Zealand, China, Canada, the E.U. and more). Diana holds numerous privacy certifications through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) including the CIPP\/E (for Europe), the CIPP\/US (for the United States), the CIPP\/A (for Asia) and the CIPM (for privacy program management). \u00a0She counsels her clients on compliance with international, federal and state privacy laws, including the \u201calphabet soup\u201d of privacy (GDPR, HIPAA, COPPA, CCPA, CPRA, VCDPA, CoPA).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
\nChris joined EA in fall of 2019 as the Chief Privacy Officer and VP of Legal Affairs for Player Protection, Cybersecurity, and EA Mobile. \u00a0As the Chief Privacy Officer, his role is to oversee the legal programs that align EA\u2019s data practices with Player expectations and regulatory requirements. \u00a0EA\u2019s games entertain and connect millions of Players across the globe on a multitude of platforms, from consoles to PCs, to mobile devices and live eSport events. \u00a0Prior to joining EA, Chris was the Chief Privacy Officer and Lead Counsel for Global Cybersecurity and Privacy at General Motors. There, he was responsible for the implementation of GM\u2019s Global Data Privacy Program, which provided privacy oversight for the global development and operations of GM\u2019s connected vehicle and vehicle-services initiatives. \u00a0Chris spent 12 years in private practice at the Chicago office of Cozen O\u2019Connor before heading in-house. \u00a0At Cozen, he was a member in the cyber risk practice group of the firm\u2019s Commercial Litigation Department; and advised public and private companies in regulatory compliance and complex business transactions, with a focus on data protection, privacy compliance and technology-related products. \u00a0He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and his law degree from Boston College.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
\nErica Walker joined Google in late 2020 as Privacy Counsel based out of New York. She advises Google products on data privacy compliance and regulatory matters. Prior to joining Google, Erica was VP Privacy Counsel at ViacomCBS, a global entertainment media company creating television content, motion pictures, streaming services, games, consumer products, and live events. In her role, she was responsible for the implementation of ViacomCBS\u2019s Global Privacy Program, where she advised on US, European, and LATAM privacy laws and regulations. Before entering the private sector, Erica worked for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights where she provided guidance for organizations alleging violations of HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules, HITECH, and Title IV of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Erica received her law degree from UCLA School of Law, and her undergraduate degree from Howard University in Washington D.C.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
\nJake Simon taught\u00a0Entertainment Law in Fall 2021. He currently works as an attorney at Red Bull advising on privacy and technology issues, and previously worked as an attorney at Warner Bros. Home Entertainment supporting their Direct to Consumer group, and prior to that at Disney Interactive advising on multi-jurisdictional legal issues. Jake received his B.A. cum laude with highest distinction from UC San Diego, and his J.D. from UCLA School of Law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
