Engage directly on emerging public policy questions at the intersection of law and technology through a combination of research, writing, and interaction with stakeholders on the front lines of global regulation debates concerning new technologies.

In 2024, the Lab is focusing on the emerging challenges of extended realities (XR, including augmented, virtual and mixed realities) and the security and regulatory implications that immersive, remote and computer generated or manipulated environments produce.

Launched in 2023, the Lab’s inaugural publication was Sustaining Journalism, Sustaining Democracy — A Policy Guide on Platforms and the Press, which has since become a valuable resource for the development of the California Journalism Protection Act. (See Projects for more.)
